Shiv Sena UBT Issues One Week Ultimatum to TMC After 110 Trees Collapse in Thane

Today, the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) Thane district branch launched a protest at the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) headquarters in Thane, issuing a strict one-week ultimatum to the civic administration over alleged corruption and severe negligence in pre-monsoon preparedness. Led by Thane District Chief Kedar Dighe and City Chief Anish Gadave, the party submitted an official memorandum to the Municipal Commissioner demanding the immediate suspension of responsible officials.
During the demonstration, party leader Mahesh Kadam and several activists tied tree branches to themselves to protest the TMC’s failure to manage hazardous trees. This symbolic action highlighted a recent wave of infrastructure failures, where severe winds and heavy rains caused over 110 tree collapses across Thane within a 24 to 72-hour period.
The falling trees damaged dozens of citizens' vehicles, including 25 to 30 cars parked directly outside the municipal headquarters. The Shiv Sena (UBT) leadership stated that despite sending written correspondence to the Tree Authority department for three months warning about dangerous overhead branches, the civic body took no preventive action.
The memorandum also condemned the TMC for what it termed the "open deception" of Thane's residents. It alleged that internal roads and residential areas have been completely neglected in favor of VIP routes and high-profile projects like the 'Double Decker' bus routes. Furthermore, the party claimed the administration's claims of 100 percent pre-monsoon drain cleaning, or Nala Safai, were exposed by waterlogging during the first heavy rainfall.
Characterizing the memorandum as a final warning, the Shiv Sena (UBT) leadership gave the Municipal Commissioner one week to take punitive action against officials. The party warned that if the administration fails to act, it will launch an aggressive protest at the municipal headquarters, holding the TMC entirely accountable for any resulting law and order disruptions.
