Six-Foot Crocodile Rescued From Under Parked Car Near Aarey

A six-foot-long Indian Marsh Crocodile was rescued from beneath a parked car near Aarey, Mumbai, on Monday morning, July 2026. The rescue operation was conducted jointly by the Mumbai Forest Department, the Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare (RAWW), and the Spreading Awareness on Reptiles and Rehabilitation Programme (SARRP).

The reptile, which is commonly known as a mugger, was likely displaced from its natural habitat due to heavy monsoon rains. It had crawled under a vehicle parked near Aarey, creating a potential human-wildlife conflict situation. The incident occurred during the monsoon season, when heavy rains often lead to the displacement of wildlife in and around Mumbai's forested areas.

Upon being alerted to the presence of the crocodile, teams from the Mumbai Forest Department, RAWW, and SARRP initiated a joint rescue operation. The successful coordination between the organizations ensured a swift response to the situation. The six-foot-long reptile was safely secured by the teams and removed from beneath the parked car.

Following its capture, the crocodile was examined by veterinarians. The medical examination was conducted to assess the health of the displaced reptile. The veterinarians declared the crocodile healthy, finding no injuries or health issues resulting from its displacement.

Once the crocodile was declared healthy, the rescue teams and forest department officials safely released the reptile back into its natural habitat. The successful operation resolved the potential conflict situation caused by the heavy rains.

The joint effort by the Mumbai Forest Department, RAWW, SARRP, and local veterinarians ensured that the displaced six-foot Indian Marsh Crocodile was safely handled, medically evaluated, and returned to the wild without further incident.
