Six Injured After Speeding BEST Bus Rams 14 Vehicles Near Andheri Subway

A speeding BEST wet-lease bus rammed into 14 stationary vehicles and multiple pedestrians near the Andheri subway on SV Road in Andheri on Friday, July 10, 2026. The crash left at least six people injured and caused significant damage to the vehicles waiting at the traffic signal. Among the injured is Dr. Sakshi Petkar, a 33-year-old orthodontist, whose family is now demanding strict action and greater accountability from the public transport authorities.

The incident involved a wet-lease bus operating on route 242. According to eyewitnesses at the scene, the bus was allegedly speeding and out of control when the mishap occurred. It plowed directly into a queue of 14 southbound vehicles that were stationary, awaiting a green signal near the busy Andheri subway.

Dr. Petkar, a resident of Dombivli and mother to a two-year-old child, was crossing SV Road when the speeding vehicle struck her. She had travelled to the Andheri locality that day specifically to select tiles for her new residence in Bandra. Eyewitness accounts indicate that she was the first of at least six people injured in the mishap, being knocked down by the oncoming bus before it rammed into the line of stationary traffic.

Following the collision, Dr. Petkar was hospitalised to treat her injuries. She remains hospitalised and is currently convalescing at Matoshree Hospital in Dombivli.

In the wake of the traumatic incident, Dr. Petkar's family has expressed deep concern over road safety and the management of wet-lease transport services. Her husband has spoken out to demand strict action and greater accountability from the authorities, noting the severe physical and emotional toll the accident has taken on their family.
