Six Killed after Chawls Collapse in Mumbai’s Mankhurd

At least six people were killed and one person was injured after two to three residential structures collapsed in the Mankhurd neighborhood of Mumbai on Sunday night, July 5, 2026. The incident, which involved ground-plus-three-storey chawls, occurred amid heavy rainfall in the city.
Following the collapse of the buildings, emergency rescue operations were immediately launched. Multiple teams, including personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the local police, and civic authorities, arrived at the site in Mankhurd to manage the rescue efforts.
Several residents of the chawls were feared trapped under the heavy debris, prompting an urgent search operation by the emergency responders. The rescue teams worked to navigate the wreckage of the ground-plus-three-storey structures to find survivors.
The collapse of the two to three residential chawls resulted in at least six confirmed fatalities and left one person injured. The heavy rainfall on Sunday night is reported to have been a factor during the time of the structural collapse.
