Smooth Surface On Mrinaltai Gore Flyover Arm Causes Bikers To Skid in Goregaon

Motorists using the newly opened arm of the Mrinaltai Gore Flyover towards Relief Road in Goregaon West have raised serious safety concerns, reporting that two-wheelers are skidding and riders are falling due to the extremely smooth surface of the tar road. The skidding incidents have been particularly frequent during wet conditions.

The 750-metre, four-lane flyover arm was constructed at a cost of Rs 248 crore to connect the existing flyover network directly to Ram Mandir Road and Relief Road in Goregaon West. The infrastructure was opened to vehicular traffic on June 6 after being delayed for almost six years.

However, soon after its commissioning, the newly opened stretch began drawing complaints from daily commuters. Motorists pointed out that the ultra-smooth road surface significantly reduces traction for two-wheelers, leading to riders losing balance and falling on the carriageway.

In light of the ongoing risk to motorists, regular commuters have appealed to the authorities to intervene and make the top layer of the road slightly rougher. Commuters noted that texturing the surface would improve tyre grip and help prevent two-wheelers from skidding in wet weather.

In addition to the slippery conditions, motorists navigating the new arm have flagged other issues with the stretch, including an uneven road surface, loose grit, and patchy sections along the roadway.
