Speeding tanker kills food delivery rider in Jogeshwari West crash

A food delivery rider was killed in the early hours of Saturday after a speeding tanker rammed his motorcycle from behind and ran over him on SV Road in Jogeshwari West, near Ajit Glass Garden and Amrut Nagar. The incident, which occurred around 1:20 AM under the jurisdiction of the Oshiwara police station, led to the arrest of the tanker driver after he was chased down by an angry crowd of local residents.
The victim, identified as Harsh, was working late at night as a delivery rider for an online food delivery platform to earn his livelihood when the collision occurred. According to the police and eyewitnesses, the speeding tanker struck Harsh's electric scooter from behind with severe impact. The force of the collision was so severe that the rider died on the spot.
Immediately after the collision, the tanker driver allegedly attempted to flee the scene by speeding away. However, alert locals and eyewitnesses chased the vehicle, intercepted it, and handed the driver over to the Oshiwara Police.
A video of the aftermath of the incident has gone viral on social media. The footage shows a police officer taking away the accused tanker driver while an angry mob can be heard abusing and passing angry remarks against him. The mob also attempted to assault the driver as the police took him into custody. The electric scooter hit in the accident can be seen lying on the road in the video.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the tanker driver appeared to be heavily intoxicated at the time of the accident and may have lost control of the vehicle due to drunken driving.
Police teams rushed to the accident site immediately after receiving information about the mishap. The police detained the accused driver and conducted a medical and blood test to determine whether he was under the influence of alcohol during the incident.
The tanker involved in the accident has been seized, and a case has been registered against the driver under relevant sections. Harsh's body was sent for a postmortem examination, and his family has been informed of the incident. Further investigation is underway.
