Speeding Tanker Rams Multiple Vehicles in Kalyan's Rambaug, Injuring Five

Five people were injured on Friday in the Rambaug area of Kalyan after a speeding water tanker driver, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, rammed into two autorickshaws and seven to eight two-wheelers.

The incident took place along the stretch between Tal Hotel and Pushparaj Hotel on Ambedkar Road in Rambaug No. 3. Witnesses reported that the tanker was being driven recklessly at high speed through the busy locality, forcing several pedestrians to run for safety to avoid being struck.

Preliminary details identified the driver as Soni Kumar, alias Gullu. The tanker was being operated by Saibaba Water Supplier Company, which supplies water across Kalyan and Dombivli under a civic contract.

According to eyewitnesses, nearby residents and autorickshaw drivers tried to stop the tanker after it began hitting vehicles on the road. The driver failed to slow down and continued driving, prompting residents and motorists to chase the vehicle through the area. The chase ended when the tanker crashed into a road divider and came to a halt.

Local residents caught the driver at the scene and allegedly assaulted him before handing him over to the Mahatma Phule Police.

Following the incident, several injured people and autorickshaw drivers approached the Mahatma Phule Police Station to lodge formal complaints. Police have initiated the process of registering a case against the driver.

Investigators are examining CCTV footage from cameras installed in the area to establish the exact sequence of events. Police stated that the driver's alleged intoxication will be verified through medical examination as part of the probe.
