SRV Hospitals Launches Robotic Joint Replacement Centre in Chembur

SRV Hospitals in Chembur, Mumbai, has launched an Advanced Robotic-Assisted Joint Replacement Centre of Excellence featuring the VELYS Robotic-Assisted Solution. The facility was inaugurated in the presence of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly member Mangesh Kudalkar, alongside medical professionals, civic representatives, and community leaders.

Speaking at the launch, Kudalkar stated that the facility represents a step toward providing personalised orthopaedic care to patients in the city. He emphasised that recovery extends beyond the operating room, noting that structured physiotherapy and rehabilitation remain crucial to helping patients regain independent movement.

The newly introduced robotic platform provides surgeons with real-time data during knee replacement procedures and supports surgical planning tailored to an individual patient's anatomy. Operating with CT-free technology, the system removes the requirement for an additional pre-operative CT scan while serving as an assist tool for surgical teams.

Dr Abhay Vispute, Founder-Director of SRV Hospitals, stated that while robotics enhances precision, the primary goal is assisting patients in walking better and resuming independent living.

The centre has been incorporated into the hospital's Mobility Restoration Programme, which encompasses preventive care, specialist evaluations, surgery, and follow-up rehabilitation led by a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, and physiotherapists.

The initiative comes as joint conditions continue to impact the state, with Maharashtra recording an estimated 6.37 million osteoarthritis cases in 2019.
