Strong Winds At Malshej Ghat Force Bikers To Stop On Kalyan-Ahmednagar Highway

Powerful winds at Malshej Ghat, located on the Pune-Thane border along the Kalyan-Ahmednagar Highway (NH-61), forced two-wheeler riders to halt on the roadside and left a pedestrian struggling to walk. The incident, captured in a video that has gained widespread attention online since Tuesday, has prompted warnings for motorists to exercise extreme caution when traveling through the mountain pass during severe weather.
The footage captured the intense force of the wind as several two-wheeler riders were forced to stop on the roadside after struggling to keep their vehicles balanced. While there was no fog present in the video, low visibility added to the dramatic scenes along the highway.
In addition to the motorists, the clip showed a man walking along the road as he tried to resist the strong gusts. At one point, the pedestrian appeared to lose his balance and struggled to move forward as the wind pushed him back.
The video has sparked a flood of reactions online, with many internet users describing the winds as terrifying and unbelievable. Some netizens joked that a lightweight person could be blown away if they stepped out in such conditions, while others urged travelers to avoid unnecessary trips through the ghat during severe weather.
Malshej Ghat is one of Maharashtra's most popular monsoon destinations, located about 130 kilometers from Mumbai and around 120 kilometers from Pune. The mountain pass is known for its lush green valleys, waterfalls, mist-covered hills, and winding roads that attract thousands of tourists every rainy season.
However, the monsoon season also brings challenging driving conditions, including dense fog, heavy rainfall, and powerful winds. Authorities and experienced travelers often advise motorists to drive cautiously, maintain low speeds, and avoid risky stops or taking selfies near cliff edges during adverse weather.
