Sudha Bhardwaj opposes NIA bid to cancel bail over Mumbai Press Club meeting

Sudha Bhardwaj, an activist and accused in the Elgar Parishad case, has denied allegations by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) that a meeting discussing the banned CPI (Maoist) was held on the terrace of the Mumbai Press Club in June. Bhardwaj is opposing the NIA's plea to cancel her bail and the bail of other accused in the case.

The legal dispute centers on an event that took place on the terrace of the Mumbai Press Club in June. The NIA has filed a plea seeking the cancellation of bail for several accused in the Elgar Parishad case, alleging that they attended this gathering in direct violation of their active bail conditions. According to the central agency, discussions regarding the CPI (Maoist), which is a banned organisation, were held during the June meeting.

Bhardwaj has strongly refuted these claims, denying that any such discussions occurred. Her lawyer, Yug Choudhary, averred that there is no evidence to support the NIA's allegations. The defense argues that the agency has not provided any proof to show that discussions about the banned group took place or that any bail conditions were violated by the accused.

Bhardwaj is actively fighting the NIA's bid to cancel the bail of several accused. The defense maintains that the allegations are completely unfounded and has opposed the agency's plea, asserting that there is no factual basis to suggest that any of the accused breached the terms of their release during the June event.

The outcome of the plea will determine whether Bhardwaj and the other accused individuals will remain out on bail or face a return to custody, as the legal battle over the alleged June meeting at the Mumbai Press Club continues.
