Syringes Found Inside Water Cooler Cabin at Kalyan Junction

Security arrangements at Kalyan Junction in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region have come under scrutiny after syringes allegedly used for substance abuse were discovered inside a water cooler cabin on the station premises.
The syringes were found inside a water cooler installed near Platforms 4 and 5 on the Kasara-bound side of the station. Sanitation workers noticed several syringes while carrying out routine cleaning operations near the drinking water facility and immediately alerted the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
Following the discovery, the RPF initiated an inquiry and began examining footage from CCTV cameras installed in and around the area to identify those responsible. Officials stated that it has not yet been established when the syringes were placed inside the cabin or who left them there.
Kalyan Junction serves as a major transit hub for suburban commuters as well as long-distance trains connecting Mumbai to northern and southern destinations, handling lakhs of passengers daily. The station has previously witnessed security concerns, including equipment theft from drinking water facilities, passenger assaults, and anti-social activities.
In response to the incident, railway authorities have directed officials to intensify surprise inspections and increase security patrols across the station. Commuters and passengers have also expressed concern, demanding stricter monitoring of public utilities and water coolers.
The RPF investigation remains underway as officials review the CCTV footage. Railway authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the outcome of the inquiry.
