Talasari Police Detain 3 Men for Gang-Rape of 19-Year-Old Woman

The Talasari police on Tuesday detained three of six men who allegedly abducted and gang-raped a 19-year-old woman at a secluded location near Dak Bungalow along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway in Palghar district on August 9. Police teams have been deployed to search for the remaining three accused, officers said.

According to preliminary information provided by the police, the 19-year-old woman and her boyfriend were returning home from an outing in Gujarat on August 9 when their two-wheeler skidded in the rain on a road in Talasari.

The woman told the police that six men riding on two motorcycles were present at the spot of the accident. She alleged that the group threatened her boyfriend and forced him to leave the area before taking her on one of the motorcycles to a secluded spot near Dak Bungalow, where they allegedly raped her.

Following the attack, the woman approached the police and narrated the incident. A case was subsequently registered and an investigation was launched by local authorities.

During her interaction with investigators, the woman was able to provide police officers with the names of five of the six suspects. Three of the suspects were detained on Tuesday and sent for medical examination. Police officers stated that they are yet to establish the exact role played by each suspect in the crime.

The woman's boyfriend later also approached the police and provided further details regarding the incident. Officers noted that his statement is considered vital to the ongoing investigation.

Palghar Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh visited Talasari to review the progress of the investigation. He subsequently formed dedicated police teams to trace and apprehend the three remaining suspects who are still at large. Deshmukh stated that strict legal action will be taken against the guilty.
