Tata Power and IIT Bombay Sign Master Pact for Clean Energy Research

Tata Power and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay have signed a Master Research Agreement at the IIT Bombay campus in Mumbai to jointly accelerate the development, scaling, and commercialization of next-generation energy technologies and clean energy solutions.
The agreement was signed by Tata Power CEO and Managing Director Dr Praveer Sinha and Prof. Shrikrishna V. Kulkarni, Dean of Research and Development at IIT Bombay. The signing took place in the presence of IIT Bombay Director Prof. Shireesh Kedare.
The collaboration is designed to combine IIT Bombay's research capabilities with Tata Power's industry expertise. Together, the two institutions plan to develop scalable solutions across a range of focus areas, including smart grids, power electronics, energy storage, electric mobility, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence for power systems, digital grid technologies, carbon capture, and the circular economy.
According to officials, the partnership aims to bridge the gap between laboratory research and commercial deployment, helping to bring innovative technologies to market at a faster pace. The initiative is expected to support India's clean energy transition, strengthen national energy security, and contribute toward sustainable development goals.
Speaking on the partnership, Dr Sinha stated that the collaboration would help develop future-ready energy technologies by bringing together cutting-edge academic research and large-scale industrial implementation expertise.
