Tata Power Commissions 101 Megawatt Wind Project in Dharashiv District

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has officially commissioned a 100.8-MW wind power project in Maharashtra's Dharashiv district to boost clean energy supply to Mumbai. The newly operational development, known as the Jewali wind project, will supply its generated power to Tata Power Mumbai Distribution. This initiative is designed to help the local utility meet its mandatory Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) targets under India's clean energy regulations.

The commissioning of the wind farm in Dharashiv district marks a significant step in increasing the share of renewable electricity within Mumbai’s power supply mix. By integrating this clean energy source, the utility aims to transition further away from traditional power sources.

The Jewali wind project features a total of 28 wind turbine generators. Each of these individual turbines has a capacity of 3.6 MW and utilizes horizontal-axis wind turbine technology to capture wind energy.

According to official projections released by the company, the wind farm is expected to generate approximately 299 million units of electricity on an annual basis. This output is estimated to be sufficient to replace an equivalent amount of conventional, fossil-fuel-based power.

In terms of environmental impact, the project is estimated to offset nearly 245 million kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions every single year. This calculation is based on standard emission factors used to measure greenhouse gas reductions.

This latest development in Dharashiv district further expands the wind energy portfolio of TPREL, which is the renewable energy arm of Tata Power. The company's total wind portfolio has now grown to over 3.9 GW.

Of this total capacity, more than 1.3 GW is currently fully operational. The remaining portion of the company's wind capacity is under various stages of development across several states, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.
