Technical Snag Delays Navi Mumbai Metro Services At RBI Colony Station

A technical snag disrupted Navi Mumbai Metro Line-1 passenger services for nearly 20 minutes on Monday morning, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded at the RBI Colony metro station near Belpada. The incident occurred around 8:30 AM during the morning rush hour on the metro route, which runs from Pendhar to CBD-Belapur.
The disruption marked the first time passenger services on the line have been halted by a technical issue since the metro operator Cidco commenced operations on November 17, 2023. The line connects CBD-Belapur to the Pendhar, Taloja node.
The sudden delay left hundreds of commuters, particularly office-goers, stranded at the station platform during their morning commute. Among those affected was Narendra Batham, a 30-year-old civil engineer residing in Kharghar. Batham had boarded the metro train at the Central Park station in Kharghar with the intention of traveling to CBD-Belapur.
According to Batham, the train came to a halt at the RBI Colony station at approximately 8:30 AM. The motorman then made a public announcement over the train's audio system, informing passengers that the train had developed a technical snag and could not proceed any further. The motorman kept the train doors open, allowing all the commuters to alight and wait on the platform.
The technical snag was eventually rectified by metro staff around 8:50 AM. Following the resolution, the commuters reboarded the same train to continue their journey. Batham explained that waiting for the train was the most viable option, as walking to the CBD-Belapur station would have taken much longer, and auto-rickshaws are not easily available in the vicinity of the metro station.
However, the journey was not entirely smooth after the restart. After the train departed from the station and covered some distance, another technical snag developed. This second disruption lasted for just 30 seconds. The train then resumed its journey and finally reached its destination at the CBD-Belapur station.
