Teenager and Parents Die After Jumping From Hill in Tisgaon Area Near Waluj MIDC

A 19-year-old youth and both his parents died on Friday after jumping from a hill in the Tisgaon area under Waluj MIDC in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, following a dispute over his demand for a mobile phone.

The teenager, identified by police as Kunal Chandgude, had gone to the hill around 10 am after an argument with his parents. The tragedy unfolded despite prolonged efforts by local villagers, police personnel, and emergency responders to talk him down.

A newly surfaced video captured the tense moments leading up to the incident, showing several people pleading with the teenager to step back from the edge of the cliff. In the video, bystanders can be heard attempting to pacify him by promising to purchase the phone he requested. One person is heard offering to get him an iPhone, while another specifies an iPhone 15 Pro in an effort to de-escalate the situation.

Despite the pleas, the teenager remained adamant, stating that he saw no other solution. A woman, believed to be his mother, and another man can be heard urging him to reconsider, emphasizing that ending his life would not solve anything.

Police and local villagers tried to persuade Kunal to abandon the attempt while the fire brigade was called to the location. Rescuers attempted to set up a safety net below the hill, but the teenager continually changed his position along the edge.

When Kunal eventually jumped, his father attempted to follow in an effort to reach or stop him and fell to his death. His mother, who witnessed both falls, subsequently jumped from the hill and died as well, according to police.

Emergency teams recovered the bodies of all three family members from the base of the hill and sent them for post-mortem formalities. Police have registered the case and are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
