Ten Thane Pilgrims Missing Near Nepal-China Border Following Flash Floods

Ten pilgrims from Thane in Maharashtra remain untraceable after severe flash floods tore through the Nepal-China border, sweeping away border checkpoints and completely severing local communication infrastructure.

The pilgrims were travelling on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra when the disaster struck on August 26. Rushing floodwaters hit the area near the Timure Chinese immigration checkpoint, cutting off contact with the group.

While two tourists from the group have returned home safely, the remaining 10 pilgrims have not been reached since the incident. Families in Thane are waiting anxiously for any news regarding their whereabouts as rescue and tracing efforts face difficult conditions.

The flash floods caused widespread destruction across the border region. In addition to knocking out local communication networks, the waters damaged infrastructure and left heavy vehicles, including concrete mixer trucks, buried in mud at a nearby hydropower construction site in Nepal.
