Thane Administration Prevents Damage in Kalwa East After Hill Water Threatens Houses

In Bhaskar Nagar, Kalwa East, prompt intervention by the administration has prevented damage to homes after water flowing from a nearby hill threatened the residential area. The incident occurred during the ongoing heavy monsoon season, and local officials confirmed that the situation was successfully brought under control with no loss of life or property.
The response in Thane district is part of a broader, statewide effort as the Maharashtra government steps up its monsoon disaster operations. Local administrations, police, fire services, health authorities, and both the National and State Disaster Response Forces have been deployed in close coordination to handle rain-related emergencies.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reviewed the statewide situation at the State Emergency Operations Centre, where Principal Secretary of Disaster Management Vinita Ved Singhal briefed him on active safety measures. The state's current strategy focuses on the round-the-clock operation of emergency control rooms, rapid deployment of rescue teams, and the evacuation of vulnerable residents.
The heavy rainfall has caused significant challenges across the region. In nearby Mumbai, Colaba recorded 882 mm of rainfall and Santacruz recorded 988 mm within a six-day period, which constitutes approximately 42 per cent of the city's annual average. The period also saw high tides exceeding four metres and wind speeds reaching 50 to 75 kmph.
In neighboring districts, state ministers have been actively monitoring the flood situation. Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar reviewed flood relief measures in Pune, while Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan visited flood-hit areas in Palghar, including Jawhar and Manor. Additionally, Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare reviewed the situation in Raigad and Ratnagiri districts.
With heavy rains continuing, authorities have urged citizens in Thane and across Maharashtra to remain alert, avoid rumours, and follow official advisories to ensure public safety.
