Thane Begins Electoral Roll Revision For 7.45 Million Voters Across 18 Constituencies
A comprehensive Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls is currently underway across all 18 assembly constituencies in Thane district, targeting data reconciliation for 7,450,515 registered voters with an eligibility reference date of October 1, 2026.
According to the district administration, 4,590,249 Enumeration Form Schedules, representing 61.61 per cent of the total, have been digitised so far. However, 2,860,266 records remain under review. This unverified segment consists of 735,000 relocated voters, 222,000 deceased individuals, and 1,708,000 untraceable entries.
To manage the revision process, 17,670 Booth Level Agents are assisting officials. Polling stations across the district have also been rationalised, decreasing from 6,894 to 6,831.
Electoral Registration Officers are currently issuing notices and holding hearings for individuals whose records do not match the 2002 revision database. Citizens attending these hearings must submit specific documentation based on their age group.
Voters born before July 1, 1987, must provide one government-approved document proving their date or place of birth. Those born between July 1, 1987, and December 2, 2004, are required to submit proof of their own date or place of birth along with a document verifying the birth details of either parent.
Accepted supporting documents include government or public sector undertaking identity cards, official records predating July 1987, Birth Certificates, Passports, SSC certificates, Domicile Certificates, Caste Certificates, Forest Rights Certificates, official Family Registers, and Land Allotment orders. Standard government-issued identity cards are also accepted under regulatory guidelines.
Emphasising voter participation during a meeting with political party representatives, District Collector and District Election Officer Dr. Srikrishna Panchal urged residents to check their names and participate in the hearings.
"Our primary objective is to build an entirely accurate, transparent, and updated voter registry," Dr. Panchal stated. "I strongly urge every citizen to verify their listing on the draft roll and participate promptly in the hearing process with the necessary documentation within the stipulated deadlines."
The draft list was released on August 31, 2026. Claims and objections will be accepted through September 30, 2026, while official hearings continue until October 29, 2026. The final electoral roll is scheduled for publication on November 4, 2026.
