Thane businessman Bhavesh Navinchandra Majethia dies at Bandra-Worli Sea Link

A 51-year-old businessman from Thane, Bhavesh Navinchandra Majethia, died on Friday, June 26, 2026, after jumping from the Bandra-Worli Sea Link into the Arabian Sea in an apparent suicide. The incident occurred at approximately 11:50 AM, drawing an immediate response from local emergency services and law enforcement.

According to the Worli police, a preliminary inquiry suggests that Majethia took the extreme step due to severe stress connected to business-related financial losses. Following the incident, the Worli police registered an accidental death report and have launched a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

The rescue operation began shortly after Majethia allegedly jumped into the sea. Local fishermen in the area were the first to spot him floating in the water. However, they were unable to reach him immediately as a high tide in the Arabian Sea posed severe challenges to their rescue efforts.

As the fishermen struggled against the rough waters, local firefighters were deployed to assist in the operation. The firefighters utilized a rubber-based motorboat to navigate the high tide and reach the businessman. After a prolonged effort, rescue teams managed to bring Majethia out of the water at approximately 2:30 PM, nearly two and a half hours after he went into the sea.

Once retrieved, Majethia was immediately rushed to Nair Hospital for medical treatment. Upon arrival, the attending doctor examined him and officially declared him dead.

The Worli police station is leading the ongoing investigation. Officers are looking into Majethia's business dealings and financial background to confirm the exact sequence of events that led to the tragedy. No further details regarding his business or family have been released by the authorities at this stage.
