Thane Civil Hospital Doctors Save Life of 23-Year-Old Bhiwandi Mother

Doctors at the Thane Civil Hospital in Thane successfully performed a rare and complex surgical intervention to save the life of a 23-year-old first-time mother from Bhiwandi. The patient was admitted to the hospital in a critical, life-threatening condition three days after undergoing a home delivery.

The medical team performed a specialized procedure known as Haultain's operation to treat the patient. She was suffering from massive postpartum hemorrhage and Acute Puerperal Uterine Inversion, a rare and potentially fatal obstetric emergency where the uterus turns inside out.

Upon her arrival, emergency protocols were immediately initiated under the direct guidance of Civil Surgeon Dr. Kailas Pawar and Additional Civil Surgeon Dr. Dheeraj Mahangade.

The surgical team was led by gynecologist Dr. Balaji Chaure. According to Dr. Chaure, the medical team successfully repositioned the uterus through highly skilled surgical maneuvering.

During the operation, the team faced a secondary challenge when the uterus became completely atonic, which risked further severe hemorrhage. Because the patient was a young, first-time mother, the doctors exhausted all clinical measures to avoid performing a hysterectomy. Their efforts were successful, and they managed to save the organ, thereby preserving her future fertility.

The complex surgery was executed by a medical team that included gynecologists Dr. Balaji Chaure, Dr. Ashwini Puri, and Dr. Aruna Belure. The team also included anesthetist Dr. Rupali Yadav, alongside healthcare staff members Manali Devgade and Milind Donde.

The patient is now reported to be stable and recovering.

Following the operation, Dr. Kailas Pawar highlighted the critical importance of institutional deliveries. Pawar emphasized that childbirth must only take place in well-equipped hospitals under expert supervision to ensure the survival of both mother and child.
