Thane Court Acquits Shil Daighar Woman of Human Trafficking Charges

A Thane court on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, acquitted a 36-year-old woman residing in the Shil Daighar area of Thane of human trafficking charges. Additional Sessions Judge R.S. Bhakare passed the acquittal order after observing that the prosecution failed to prove its case against the accused beyond a reasonable doubt.

The accused, identified as Karuna alias Gudiya Hemant Biswas, is a resident of Shil Daighar in the Thane district of Maharashtra. She had been facing trial over allegations of human trafficking.

In the court order, Additional Sessions Judge R.S. Bhakare pointed out significant deficiencies in the case presented by the prosecution. The judge observed that crucial parts of the prosecution's claims were based on hearsay rather than direct evidence.

A major factor leading to the acquittal was the prosecution's failure to examine key witnesses during the trial. Among those who were not examined were the alleged victims of the trafficking case, as well as a decoy customer. The court noted that the absence of these vital testimonies left a significant gap in the evidence.

Without direct evidence or testimonies from these key individuals, the court held that the allegations could not be proven. The judge emphasized that the prosecution's reliance on hearsay was insufficient to sustain a conviction in a court of law.

As a result of the lack of direct evidence and the failure to examine the main witnesses, the Thane court cleared Karuna alias Gudiya Hemant Biswas of all charges, ordering her acquittal in the human trafficking case.
