Thane man Nitin Tupe surrenders after strangling wife in Vartak Nagar

A 37-year-old driver was arrested on Thursday after he allegedly strangled his 30-year-old wife to death over suspicion of an extramarital affair at their home in Vartak Nagar, Thane. The accused subsequently walked into the local police station to surrender.

The accused, identified as Nitin Tupe, allegedly used a dupatta to strangle his wife inside their residence. The crime occurred while the couple's two children were away at school.

According to the police, Tupe had long suspected his wife of having an extramarital affair. This suspicion led to recurring disputes between the couple, which police say culminated in the murder on Thursday.

After the killing, Tupe allegedly informed an acquaintance about the crime. He then proceeded to the Vartak Nagar police station, where he surrendered to the officers on duty.

Following the incident, the deceased woman's brother filed a formal complaint with the police. Based on this complaint, the Vartak Nagar police registered a murder case against Tupe under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and subsequently arrested him.

The police stated that further investigation is currently underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the murder.

Meanwhile, the couple's two children have been placed in the care of their relatives, according to the police.
