Thane MP Naresh Mhaske Opens 18-Bed NICU at Kopri Maternity Hospital

On Friday, a state-of-the-art 18-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) was officially inaugurated at the Sheth Lakhichand Fatichand Maternity Hospital in Kopri, Thane, marking a major boost to the city's healthcare infrastructure. The new facility was dedicated to the public by Member of Parliament (MP) Naresh Mhaske in an event presided over by Mayor Sharmila Pimpolkar, aiming to provide critical, round-the-clock localized treatment for newborns from low-income and underprivileged families.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several prominent local dignitaries and medical officials. Among those present were Deputy Mayor Krishna Patil, House Leader Hanmant Jagdale, Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Prasad Patil, and Health Officer Dr. Rani Shinde, representing the Thane Municipal Corporation.

For years, the Sheth Lakhichand Fatichand Maternity Hospital has functioned as a crucial healthcare lifeline for low-income families and residents of nearby underprivileged areas in Kopri. In the past, newborns who required critical intensive care had to be shifted to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital or other distant facilities, which often added stress and risk during emergency transit.

With the commissioning of this new 18-bed advanced intensive care unit, high-quality localized treatment is now available 24/7. The immediate availability of specialized neonatal care within the Kopri locality is expected to eliminate the dangers associated with transporting critical newborns over long distances.

Speaking at the inauguration, MP Naresh Mhaske commended the persistent efforts of local representatives in bringing the project to fruition. He also lauded the Thane Municipal Corporation's medical team for their exemplary dedication, particularly noting their frontline service during the pandemic. Mhaske urged the hospital administration to maintain this standard of quality healthcare to serve the public effectively.

Mayor Sharmila Pimpolkar reaffirmed the municipal corporation's ongoing commitment to delivering accessible, premium healthcare services to the public, citing the guidance of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Additionally, local representatives expressed their gratitude to the civic leadership and administration for deploying expert doctors to ensure the seamless and efficient operation of the newly established unit.
