Thane Municipal Commissioner Transfers 116 Staff to Boost Anti-Encroachment Drives

On July 1, Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao issued an order transferring 116 municipal employees across various ward-level departments in Thane. The administrative decision aims to enhance the efficacy, transparency, and consistency of anti-encroachment operations targeting unauthorized businesses, street vendors, and handcart operators.
According to the municipal administration, previous anti-encroachment campaigns in the city had failed to achieve the expected levels of consistency and impact. Additionally, authorities raised concerns regarding employees remaining stationed within the same ward committees for extended periods, which prompted a comprehensive review of staffing assignments.
The scope of these transfers affects 116 personnel working within the encroachment control and removal departments across nine ward committees. The affected positions include senior clerks, clerks, peons, labourers, and sanitation workers.
Commissioner Rao has emphasized the urgency of these reassignments. Under the directives issued by the Thane Municipal Corporation, the related employees must be relieved from their current posts immediately and must report to their newly assigned locations without delay.
The Commissioner has explicitly warned that any failure to comply with the transfer orders, or any failure to report to the new workplace, will result in disciplinary action against the employee.
