Thane schools and colleges closed on Monday due to orange heavy rain alert

Local municipal corporations and district administrations declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in Thane and other parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region on Monday. The decision was officially announced late Sunday evening in response to an 'orange' alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall along with gusty winds.
In addition to the widespread closure of local schools and colleges, Mumbai University postponed all examinations scheduled to be held on Monday. The university’s Examination and Evaluation Board released a circular on Sunday, confirming that the postponement was decided upon to ensure the safety of all students during the hazardous weather conditions.
According to the university's circular, a revised examination schedule for all postponed papers will be announced shortly on its official website. Students have been advised by the university administration to check the website regularly for further updates regarding the new exam dates.
The holiday orders were issued by the respective local municipal corporations and district administrations following consecutive days of relentless downpours. These heavy rains have already caused severe disruptions to normal life, administrative operations, and public transport networks across Thane, Mumbai, and Navi Mumbai.
As part of the safety measures, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation additionally issued an advisory appealing to all citizens to remain indoors. The municipal body urged residents in the affected areas to avoid traveling unless it is absolutely urgent.
The combined actions of the IMD, Mumbai University, local municipal corporations, and district administrations reflect the serious nature of the weather threat. Residents throughout the Thane region have been advised to stay cautious and monitor local updates as the heavy rain and gusty winds continue to impact the metropolitan area.
