Three 19-Year-Olds Injured in KTM Bike Crash on Mumbai Freeway Near Panjarpol
Three 19-year-old youths sustained severe injuries after their motorcycle allegedly skidded while speeding and performing stunts, crashing into two cars on the Mumbai Freeway near the Panjarpol Tunnel on September 4. The accident took place at around 7:50 pm near the skywalk located shortly before the tunnel.
According to the First Information Report, complainant Zulfikar Riyaz Beg, 26, an app-based cab driver residing in Bainganwadi, Govandi, was travelling towards Chhedanagar in Ghatkopar East. Beg had picked up a passenger from KEM Hospital in his Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, bearing registration number MH-03-EG-5613, when his vehicle was hit from behind by a KTM motorcycle bearing registration number MH-03-FB-2979.
Police stated that three youths were riding on the motorcycle, allegedly travelling in a zigzag manner at high speed while performing stunts. The two-wheeler skidded and struck the front-left portion of Beg's cab before colliding with a Baleno car bearing registration number MH-05-FV-3109. All three riders were thrown onto the road by the force of the collision, sustaining serious injuries.
Following the crash, Beg moved his damaged vehicle to the side of the road, and other motorists stopped to assist. One of the motorists transported the three injured youths to Shatabdi Hospital for emergency medical attention. Because of the extent of their injuries, the three youths were subsequently shifted to Sion Hospital for further treatment.
During the investigation, police identified the motorcycle rider as Faiz alias Ayan Shabir Sheikh, 19, who works as a delivery boy. The two pillion riders were identified as Rohit Raju Pardeshi, 19, who is employed in a private company, and Ayan Nadeem Shaikh, 19, also a delivery boy. All three teenagers are residents of the Vashinaka area in Chembur.
Based on Beg's complaint, police registered a case against the rider under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act. Police noted that two-wheelers are prohibited from using the Mumbai Freeway. The rider stands accused of illegally entering the Freeway with two pillion riders, operating the vehicle at excessive speed, and riding in a rash and negligent manner that caused the multi-vehicle crash.
