Three Family Members Injured in Navin Sheva Bedroom Slab Collapse
Three members of a family, including an eight-year-old boy, sustained major injuries after a bedroom slab collapsed on them on Friday morning in Navin Sheva, Uran, within the Navi Mumbai region.
The incident occurred early in the day, trapping the family members under a heavy pile of debris. The victims have been identified as Pritam Ravkar, his wife Namrata, and their minor son.
Upon hearing the collapse, local residents rushed to the spot to help. They were joined by a nearby fire brigade team, initiating a joint rescue operation to free the trapped family. The team of locals and fire brigade personnel worked for half an hour to extricate the three victims from the collapsed structure.
Rajendra Gharat, one of the local rescuers who participated in the operation, stated that the victims were trapped among wood pieces and cement concrete. Gharat praised the swift response of the emergency services, noting that the fire brigade team nearby arrived fast, which led to an expeditious rescue operation.
Following the rescue, the trio was rushed to the MGM Hospital-Kamothe to receive urgent medical attention. The family members had sustained major injuries, including bone fractures in their legs and hands, in addition to several other injuries. All three victims underwent surgeries at the hospital.
Vaman Bhoir, another local resident, provided an update on their medical condition, stating that the victims are now out of danger. Bhoir confirmed that all three of the family members sustained fractures in their legs.
Bhoir also pointed out the underlying civic issues in the area that contribute to such incidents. He explained that local residents are unable to repair or reconstruct their houses due to a combination of financial issues and a lack of land records.
