Three Foreign Nationals Arrested at Mumbai Airport for Using Forged Indian Passports

Immigration officials at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport intercepted and arrested three foreign nationals from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal on October 3 and 4 for allegedly obtaining Indian passports using forged documents and false information.

The Sahar police took custody of the three men after airport immigration authorities flagged discrepancies in their travel credentials. According to police officials, the fraudulent Indian passports were issued out of Mumbai and Kolkata, allegedly facilitated by a network of passport agents.

Among those taken into custody was 48-year-old Bangladeshi national Robindra Mondal, who was handed over to the police on October 3. Mondal was allegedly attempting to board Etihad flight EY207 to Abu Dhabi, from where he was scheduled to take a connecting flight to Paris, while travelling on an Indian passport.

Immigration records allegedly linked him to two Bangladeshi passports issued in Dhaka under the name Rabindra Mondol, which listed his birthplace as Munshiganj, Bangladesh, and his date of birth as June 12, 1978. Officials said Mondal admitted during questioning that he had entered India illegally and later obtained Aadhaar and PAN cards, which he then used to secure an Indian passport.

Investigators stated that Mondal had allegedly obtained the Indian passport, bearing number AP-472113, from Kolkata on May 11, 2026, relying on false personal details.

Separately, 40-year-old Nepalese national Deepak Giri was intercepted on October 3 after arriving in Mumbai from Kathmandu on IndiGo flight 6E1158. Immigration officers questioned Giri after border checks flagged his frequent travel history to Kathmandu, and authorities reported that he failed to provide satisfactory explanations regarding his documents.

An Afghan national was also intercepted during the crackdown across the two days. The Sahar police confirmed that all three individuals have been arrested, and an investigation is currently underway to identify and dismantle the network of agents responsible for procuring illegal identity documents and passports across Mumbai and Kolkata.
