Three men arrested for gang-raping 40-year-old Andheri resident in Virar

Three men were arrested on Saturday evening for allegedly gang-raping a 40-year-old woman, a resident of Andheri, in Virar East. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday after the suspects lured the woman under the pretext of helping her locate her relative's residence.

The survivor, who lives in Andheri with her husband, had travelled to Virar on Thursday night after leaving home following an argument with her husband. She booked an app-based cab and arrived in Virar East at around 2:45 AM on Friday, intending to stay with her relatives. She got off the vehicle near a residential building.

According to the police, the woman was approached by three men at around 2:50 AM. The men offered to assist her in finding her relative's home. Instead, they took her to a nearby location, gang-raped her, and fled the scene.

The survivor approached the police later on Friday to lodge a formal complaint. In her statement, she provided the first names of two of the accused, Tejas and Deepak, along with the mobile phone numbers of two of the suspects.

Based on her complaint and the findings of a medical examination, the police registered a case of gang rape and launched an investigation. On Saturday, investigators also recorded the statements of the woman's husband and father.

Using the physical descriptions provided by the survivor and footage from local CCTV cameras, the police identified and arrested the three suspects on Saturday evening.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Tejas Ramesh Patil, 22, Shivnath Omprakash Dubey, 35, and Vipin Indrabahadur Pathak, 30. All three suspects are residents of Virar and will be produced before a magistrate's court in Vasai.

An officer from the Bolinj police station stated that while there are some inconsistencies in the information provided by the survivor, the police are thoroughly investigating every aspect of the case based on her complaint.
