Three minor girls drown in Jasai village pond in Uran, mother rescued

Three minor girls, including two sisters and their neighbour, tragically drowned while bathing in a pond in Jasai village, Uran taluka, on Saturday afternoon. The mother of the two sisters was successfully rescued from the water by a local resident during the incident, which occurred around 2:30 p.m.
The deceased sisters have been identified as eight-year-old Rehana Ramzan Parveen and seven-year-old Raveena Ramzan Parveen. They were the daughters of Shakala Mohammed Ramzan Khadim Mansoori, 35. The third victim was their neighbour's daughter, 13-year-old Soumya Kanhaiya Prajapati, daughter of Kanhaiya Setu Kumar Prajapati. The families resided in a local chawl in Jasai village.
According to Hanif Mulani, senior inspector of Uran police, Shakala Mansoori had initially gone to the pond behind a local temple at 11:00 a.m. to wash clothes. Because their chawl had been facing a water shortage with no supply for two days, she returned to the pond at 2:30 p.m. with her daughters and the neighbour's daughter so they could bathe.
After entering the water, the woman and the three girls struggled to gauge the depth of the pond and began gasping for breath. A local villager, Mohammad Munna Qureshi, who was grazing his goats nearby, heard Mansoori's cries for help. Since Qureshi did not know how to swim, he was unable to jump in but immediately alerted another resident.
Qureshi called out to 38-year-old Prashant Mhatre, who was passing by the area. Mhatre immediately dove into the pond and managed to pull Mansoori safely to the shore. Upon learning from her that the three young girls were also in the water, Mhatre dove back in to search for them.
Mhatre located the three girls underwater and brought them to the shore. All three were unconscious due to inhaling pond water. The entire rescue attempt unfolded within two minutes.
The girls were rushed to the Indira Gandhi Rural Government Hospital in Uran, where doctors declared them brought dead. Following hospital formalities, the bodies were handed over to their parents for final rites. The Uran police have registered an accidental death report regarding the incident.
