Three teenagers drown in abandoned quarry on Chopda Road in Amalner

Three teenage boys drowned on Monday evening after slipping into a water-filled abandoned quarry on Chopda Road in Amalner tehsil, Jalgaon district, while attempting to take a selfie. The victims, identified as Manav Ratnani (14), Kartik Udhwani (15), and Dinesh Panjwani (16), lost their balance and fell into the deep water near the bridge on the Amalner highway.

According to Jalgaon Superintendent of Police (SP) Shrikant Dhivare, the incident came to light on Tuesday. Police and local residents rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident. The boys were rescued from the quarry and taken to Dr. Anil Shinde's Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

The three friends were reportedly standing on a narrow elevated platform in the middle of the water-filled quarry to take photos. SP Dhivare stated that the water at the accident site is estimated to be around 14 to 15 feet deep. He confirmed that all three victims were juveniles.

During their attempt to take a selfie, one of the teenagers lost his footing and slipped into the deep water. Another friend tried to pull him to safety by grabbing his hand, while the third jumped in to assist. However, all three lost their balance and fell into the quarry. Since none of the boys knew how to swim, they all drowned.

A passing autorickshaw driver witnessed the incident and immediately called for help. Another bystander alerted the local police to the emergency.

Following the alert, a rescue team consisting of Police Inspector Dattatraya Karande, Tehsildar CU Patil, Talathi Ashfaq Pinjari, and local residents launched an operation. They successfully pulled the three teenagers out of the water and rushed them to Dr. Anil Shinde's Hospital, where they were declared brought dead.
