TMC Inaugurates Race Control Office For 32nd Thane Mayor Varsha Marathon

Thane Mayor Sharmila Pimpale inaugurated the dedicated race control office for the upcoming 32nd Thane Mayor Varsha Marathon 2026 at the Thane Municipal Corporation Headquarters on August 13. The marathon is being organized by the Thane Municipal Corporation in collaboration with the Maharashtra State Athletics Association and the Thane District Athletics Association.

Marking a return after a seven-year hiatus, the flagship sports event is being held under the theme "Dhav Pragatichi... Gatishil Thaneyachi" (Run for Progress, Dynamic Thane). The event is expected to draw wide participation from citizens, local runners, and the broader sports fraternity across Maharashtra.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several civic officials and dignitaries, including Deputy Mayor Krishna Patil, Leader of the House Hanmant Jagdale, Shiv Sena Group Leader Pawan Kadam, Additional Commissioner Prashant Rode, and Deputy Commissioners Minal Palande and Deepak Zinjad, alongside student athletes and senior citizens.

To manage event logistics, the civic administration established the central marathon office at the Late Arvind Pendse Hall on the third floor of the Thane Municipal Corporation Headquarters. The facility will handle participant registrations, resolve queries, and manage bib distribution. Chest numbers were formally handed out to students and senior citizens during the opening event.

Civic authorities expect more than 30,000 participants to compete across multiple age categories. The anticipated field includes school students, elite state-level runners, military personnel, senior citizens, public representatives, and celebrities.

Civic leaders stated that the marathon aims to promote health awareness and strengthen sports culture across the city alongside competitive athletics.
