TMC School Students Craft Tricolour Rakhis for Har Ghar Tiranga Drive
As part of the nationwide 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, students across Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) schools in Balkum, Kalwa, and other areas of Thane participated in creative 'Tricolour Rakhi Making' initiatives and patriotic programs on August 10, 2026. The nationwide drive, being observed from August 9 to August 15 in alignment with central and state government guidelines, aims to foster a deep sense of patriotism, respect for the national flag, and national integration among young learners ahead of Independence Day.
Students from standard 1st to 8th across various municipal schools enthusiastically participated in the hands-on rakhi crafting activity. During the sessions, teachers guided the children on the significance of the Indian tricolour—saffron, white, and green—and demonstrated the step-by-step process of making the rakhis. The initiative was designed to encourage artistic talents while spreading awareness about the national symbol.
On August 10, special sessions for crafting tricolour rakhis were organized for students from standard 6th to 8th at TMC School Nos. 18, 25, and 54. The participating children actively used vibrant color combinations and artistic designs to prepare their handcrafted rakhis.
A similar event was hosted at TMC School No. 60 in Balkum. Distinguished local dignitaries, including corporators Sanjay Bhoir and Usha Bhoir, alongside Group Officer Sangeeta Bamane, were present at the Balkum school to encourage the children and appreciate their handcrafted creations.
Furthermore, TMC School No. 127 held an enthusiastic tricolour rakhi-making program featuring students from standard 1st to 8th. Local corporator Kamal Chaudhary attended the occasion as the chief guest, interacting directly with the students, offering guidance, and praising their craftsmanship.
Through these engagements, the TMC intends to amplify the core message of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, ensuring that the spirit of nationalism resonates deeply within households across the city through student participation.
In addition to the rakhi-making activities, patriotic programs were rolled out across other municipal units. The Kalwa Ward Committee organized events to brief school students on the importance of the national flag and Independence Day. The program in Kalwa was attended by Ward Committee Chairperson Vijaya Lase, former Deputy Mayor Manoj Lase, Assistant Commissioner Lalita Jadhav, alongside other civic officials and staff members.
