Torrential Rain Floods Kalyan and Dombivli Submerging Roads and Homes

Overnight torrential rain starting late Friday night through Saturday, July 4, 2026, caused severe waterlogging, flooded residential areas, and submerged roads across the twin cities of Kalyan and Dombivli, particularly on Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road in Kalyan West, Kachore Road, and Shilphata Road.

Vehicular movement was severely disrupted across the region, leaving many motorists stranded. On Shilphata Road, floodwaters rose so deep that a car was seen floating, an incident captured on video. Water levels in the Shilphata area and along Kalyan-Shil Road reportedly rose up to waist height, halting traffic and pedestrian movement.

Other heavily affected areas included Kalyan Court, Patripul, Shivaji Chowk, the vicinity of Gurudev Hotel, MIDC, and Titwala.

Residential areas suffered significant flooding. In Kalyan East, rainwater entered houses in Rahul Nagar at Chinchpada, forcing residents to spend the night moving their belongings to safer spots. Inside the Mohinder Singh-Kabul Singh School campus, residents of the chawls faced severe hardship as overflowing drains and sewage mixed with rainwater entered the premises.

In Dombivli, the commercial hub around the railway station was flooded. Rainwater entered shops and markets, causing financial losses to local traders and disrupting business activity.

The situation escalated on Dombivli-Khambalpada Road near the Tata Power station, where chemical-laced water overflowed from drainage lines and MIDC chambers. In New Govindwadi on Kachore Road in Kalyan East, a drainage cover on the footpath near Bhushan Gym collapsed after being weakened by the rain, creating a hazard for commuters.

In response to the crisis, the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) placed its disaster management machinery on high alert. KDMC officials deployed response teams to vulnerable locations to monitor the situation. The civic body appealed to residents, especially those in low-lying areas, to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel.
