Train Manager Injured by Stone Pelting Between Juinagar and Nerul Railway Stations

A 48-year-old Central Railway train manager was seriously injured on Friday, July 4, 2026, after an unidentified person hurled a stone at a moving Harbour Line local train between Juinagar and Nerul railway stations in Navi Mumbai. Despite suffering a severe head injury and bleeding profusely, the manager continued performing his duties to bring the train safely to its destination.

The injured train manager, identified as Sunilkumar Upendra Prasad, is attached to the Mumbai Division of Central Railway and is currently posted at Panvel. The incident occurred at approximately 5:45 AM when the Wadala–Panvel local train was passing near railway pole number 32/211.

Prasad was positioned in the guard's cabin at the rear of the train, monitoring its movement, when the stone struck him above his left eyebrow. According to railway officials, the thrown stone narrowly missed his eye and could have caused permanent damage had it landed just a few inches lower.

Despite his painful injuries and significant blood loss, Prasad chose not to halt the train on the tracks. He continued to manage the train's operations until the local safely reached the Panvel railway station, ensuring the safety of the commuters on board.

Upon arriving at Panvel, Prasad immediately informed the Station Master about the stone-pelting incident. He was then shifted to Lifeline Hospital in Panvel, where he is currently undergoing medical treatment for his head injury.

The railway police later visited the hospital to record Prasad's statement. Prasad informed the officers that he was unable to identify the attacker because it was still dark outside when the incident took place.

The Vashi Government Railway Police have registered a case against the unidentified offender. Senior Police Inspector Kiran Undre of the Vashi GRP stated that they have begun an investigation, are examining all available leads, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the accused.
