Trainer Aircraft Crash-Lands at Baramati Airport in Pune; No Injuries
A trainer aircraft operated by a private aviation company crash-landed inside the Baramati Airport complex in Pune at approximately 12:35 pm on Sunday morning. According to reports, no casualties or injuries were recorded in the incident.
The aircraft suffered minor damage after coming to rest a short distance away from the main runway. Visuals of the aircraft on the ground circulated online following the crash, showing limited visible structural damage while sparking renewed public concerns over operational safety at Baramati Airport.
Sunday's crash-landing is the second aviation incident recorded in the Baramati region this year. In January, a separate aircraft accident took place near Baramati Airport when a Learjet 45 aircraft crashed during a landing attempt, resulting in the deaths of all five individuals on board.
The victims of the January aviation disaster included 66-year-old Nationalist Congress Party leader and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, his personal security officer, and his attendant. The two cockpit crew members on board the flight, identified as pilot-in-command Sumit Kapur and first officer Shambhavi Pathak, were also killed in that crash.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau is currently conducting an official probe into the cause of the fatal January crash. The investigative body is expected to submit its final detailed report on the incident by January next year.
In the wake of these plane crash incidents, Baramati Airport is now slated for a comprehensive facility upgrade. Officials plan to install an independent Air Traffic Control tower at the site to enhance overall flight management and air traffic guidance in the region.
The planned development project at Baramati Airport also includes an extension of the current runway and the installation of specialized technical systems to enable safe aircraft take-offs and landings at night. Additionally, the airport infrastructure plan includes the establishment of a dedicated fire station and the construction of a reinforced security wall to strengthen emergency response mechanisms and perimeter security.
