Truck carrying jaggery hangs off Kasarvadavali Flyover after crash in Thane

A cargo truck loaded with 12 tonnes of jaggery crashed into a concrete divider on the Kasarvadavali Flyover on Ghodbunder Road in Thane early Friday morning, leaving the front of the vehicle hanging precariously off the bridge. The accident occurred at around 5:00 AM on Friday, July 3, opposite Oscar Hospital and near Titan Hospital. Miraculously, no injuries or casualties were reported from the scene, though the incident caused significant disruption to traffic on the busy road.

The TATA truck, carrying registration number MH 12 FC 6177, is owned by Amol Kamthe and was being driven by Tushar Kamthe at the time of the incident. The vehicle was en route from Pune to Dahanu, carrying its massive payload of jaggery. According to official sources from the Thane Municipal Corporation’s Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC), the driver lost control of the heavy vehicle on the flyover, leading to the violent crash.

The impact of the collision was severe enough to break the truck's cabin and front chassis through the concrete barrier of the flyover. This left the front portion of the vehicle dangerously suspended over the edge of the bridge, looking down toward the service road below.

The RDMC received an emergency call regarding the crash at 9:10 AM, prompting an immediate mobilization of rescue and traffic management personnel to the Kasarvadavali Flyover. Traffic Police Officer Mr. Pawar, who reported the incident, coordinated directly with municipal teams to initiate a complex recovery operation.

To manage the situation, emergency responders deployed a comprehensive fleet of vehicles. The RDMC sent one pickup vehicle and a JCB machine to the site, while the Traffic Police deployed a heavy-duty hydra crane and an additional recovery crane.

Personnel from both the disaster management cell and the traffic department worked actively at the site to stabilize the hanging vehicle and safely tow it away. Traffic on the Kasarvadavali stretch of Ghodbunder Road had to be regulated while the high-stakes recovery operation was underway.
