Twin fires destroy warehouses in Bhiwandi's Nimbavali and Yewai villages

Two massive fires broke out at separate warehouse locations in Nimbavali village and Yewai village within Bhiwandi's rural belt during the early hours of Sunday, gutting multiple storage facilities and causing extensive property damage. The blazes, which began around 3:00 AM, destroyed warehouses storing tyres, timber, and plastic, triggering widespread panic among local residents and workers.
The first and more severe fire erupted at approximately 3:00 AM in Nimbavali village. The flames quickly engulfed a tyre warehouse, a timber depot, and a plastic storage facility. Due to the highly combustible materials stored inside, the fire spread rapidly and reduced seven to eight warehouses to ashes.
Panic gripped the area as a gas agency was located close to the burning warehouses. Local residents and workers feared a potential explosion. Firefighters arrived at the scene with two fire tenders and launched an intensive operation to contain the flames. After several hours of firefighting, the blaze was brought under control.
While the Nimbavali fire caused massive destruction and property losses estimated to run into several lakhs of rupees, no casualties or injuries were reported.
During the same night, a second major fire broke out at a timber warehouse in nearby Yewai village, which also falls under the Bhiwandi rural jurisdiction. The large quantities of wood stored inside the facility caused the flames to spread swiftly, completely destroying the entire structure.
Two fire tenders were deployed to the scene in Yewai. Firefighters battled the blaze to prevent it from spreading to adjacent properties. Officials confirmed that there were no injuries or loss of life in the Yewai incident, though substantial financial losses are expected due to the destroyed timber stock.
The exact causes of both fires remain unknown. Local authorities and the fire department have launched separate investigations to determine the origin of the blazes. Fire department officials stated that a detailed assessment of the damage will be conducted once the affected sites have completely cooled down.
Following the incidents, local residents have called on the administration to strengthen fire safety measures and conduct regular inspections of warehouse clusters in the Bhiwandi rural region.
