Two 3.4 Magnitude Earthquake Tremors Hit Jawhar Taluka in Palghar

Jawhar taluka in Palghar district, located 100 km from Mumbai, experienced two back-to-back earthquake tremors of magnitude 3.4 within a span of an hour on Monday night, August 10, 2026. The seismic activity raised concerns among local citizens, district officials reported on Tuesday, August 11.

According to data from the National Centre for Seismology, the first tremor was recorded at 10:04 p.m. on Monday night. It was followed shortly after by a second tremor at 11:00 p.m.

District Disaster Management Cell chief Vivekanand Kadam confirmed the location and depth of the tremors. "The seismic activity occurred at a depth of 5 km in the Jawhar taluka of Palghar district," Mr. Kadam stated.

This is the second seismic episode to affect the district in two months. Palghar previously felt three tremors last month, according to official records.

Disaster management authorities are continuing to keep track of the district's seismic developments following the events. "We are monitoring the changes. However, we urge people to stay calm and follow the protocols," Mr. Kadam said.
