Two 3.4 Magnitude Earthquakes Hit Jawhar Taluka in Palghar District
Two mild earthquakes, both measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale, struck Jawhar taluka in the Palghar district of Maharashtra within the span of a single hour on Monday night. Local officials confirmed that no loss of life or damage to property has been reported anywhere in the region following the consecutive events.
Data provided by the District Information Office confirmed that the first tremor was recorded at 10:04 PM on Monday. Nearly one hour after the initial shock, at 11:00 PM, a second tremor measuring the exact same 3.4 magnitude hit the region once again.
Vivekanand Kadam, chief of the District Disaster Management Cell, stated that the epicentre of both seismic tremors was located underground in Jawhar taluka at a shallow depth of approximately five kilometers.
The consecutive tremors triggered brief panic among local residents in the area. Authorities quickly moved to reassure the public, noting that no structural damage to buildings or injuries to individuals have been recorded across the district.
The local administration alongside disaster management teams are actively monitoring the situation. Officials have issued appeals to the public asking residents not to panic, to remain calm, and to adhere to standard safety guidelines recommended during earthquakes.
Palghar district is located roughly 100 kilometers away from Mumbai and is recognized as being seismically active. The area has experienced several low-intensity tremors over recent years, including three separate tremors reported just last month.
