Two Arrested for Fatal Stabbing of Trailer Driver on Bhiwandi-Thane Bypass Road

The Kongaoan police have arrested two men in connection with the murder of a trailer driver who was fatally attacked during an attempted robbery near the Tata Aamantar site on the Bhiwandi-Thane bypass road in the early hours of August 16.

The deceased has been identified as 33-year-old Pawan Kumar Kaju Mahato, a resident of Bihar who worked as a trailer driver. The arrested suspects have been identified as Rameez Abdul Rashid Ansari, 23, and Mohammad Alkaish Parvez Alam Momin, 25, both residents of Bhiwandi.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 2:45 am on August 16 when Mahato stopped his trailer, registered under number MH 46 BU 2110, near the Tata Aamantar site to have a meal. The two accused approached Mahato with the intention of robbing him. When Mahato resisted their attempt, the assailants attacked him with a knife, inflicting fatal injuries to his neck. The attackers took cash from him and fled the scene on a motorcycle.

Mahato was taken to a hospital for emergency treatment but succumbed to his injuries. Following his death, the Kongaoan police registered a murder case against unidentified individuals and initiated an investigation.

The probe was directed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Bhiwandi Zone-II) Pawan Bansod and Assistant Commissioner of Police Sachin Sangale, and conducted under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Mangesh Borse along with the crime investigation team. Five dedicated police teams were formed to track the suspects.

With no initial direct leads at the scene, investigators relied on eyewitness descriptions to trace the culprits. Over three consecutive days, the teams analysed footage from approximately 150 CCTV cameras across the surrounding area and Bhiwandi city. Investigators eventually spotted suspects matching the witness descriptions travelling on a motorcycle.

Using technical surveillance and analysis, police established the suspects' identities and movements, leading to the apprehension of Ansari and Momin. Police stated that both suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime during questioning.

According to DCP Bansod, Momin has a prior criminal record involving 18 cases registered against him at various police stations for offenses including theft and snatching, while Ansari has one case registered against him.
