Two Booked for Abetment After Law Graduate Dies by Suicide in Bandra East
A 24-year-old law graduate died by suicide in Bandra East on Friday, prompting the Kherwadi police to book two women for alleged abetment of suicide. The deceased's family alleged that he took the extreme step after facing continuous harassment and threats from a female friend and her sister.
The deceased, who resided in Bandra East with his parents and younger brother, had been visibly disturbed over the past few days, according to details provided by the police. An officer from the Kherwadi police station stated that the young man had disclosed to his family that his female friend, with whom he used to study, along with her sister, had been threatening him with a police complaint. The specific nature of the allegations the two women intended to make against him was not immediately clear to investigating officers.
According to the police, the deceased had asked his parents to get in touch with one of his male friends. While his mother was on the phone speaking to this friend, the friend received an audio message directly from the deceased. In the audio note, the 24-year-old indicated that he was taking his own life as a result of the alleged ongoing harassment by the two women.
Upon realizing the situation, the deceased’s parents found that he had locked himself inside his room. They immediately called for a locksmith to break open the locked door. However, the deceased was subsequently discovered lying on the podium of his apartment building.
His family immediately transported him to Sion Hospital, where medical staff declared him dead upon arrival. Police noted that a post-mortem examination is expected to officially establish the cause of death.
Investigating officers revealed that the deceased and the female friend named in the complaint had previously studied together in Bengaluru. After securing a job, the 24-year-old had been working from home since March. Police added that the two accused women had also sent threatening messages to the deceased’s younger brother, warning that they would file a police complaint. Following a formal complaint lodged by the deceased's family, the Kherwadi police registered a case against both women on Friday night.
