Two college girls critically injured after electrocution on waterlogged Nerul street

Two college girls were critically injured on Wednesday afternoon after being electrocuted in a waterlogged street in front of Bikaner Sweets under the LP Bridge in Nerul, Navi Mumbai. The incident occurred amid heavy rains that have lashed Mumbai and its nearby regions, severely impacting daily life and commuting across the metropolitan area.

The electrocution was caused by a short circuit in a wire in front of the sweet shop. According to initial reports, the two college girls were passing through the flooded street when they came into direct contact with the electrical current, which had rapidly spread through the accumulated rainwater.

The sudden incident triggered widespread panic among onlookers and commuters in the Nerul area. Visuals that surfaced from the spot depicted the two girls lying on the road in the pouring rain. A male rescuer was seen using the branch of a tree to safely pull the girls away from the electrified water, while several vehicles remained stranded nearby as the rescue attempt unfolded.

Following the rescue, both girls were immediately loaded into a rickshaw and rushed to the nearby DY Patil Hospital for urgent medical treatment. Medical officials confirmed that both of the college students are currently in critical condition.

The accident occurred during a period of intense downpours that have caused widespread disruption across Navi Mumbai. In addition to the waterlogging under the LP Bridge, parts of the Sion-Panvel Highway were also submerged, causing significant inconvenience to motorists and slowing down traffic movement on the busy route that connects Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.

Flooding was also reported at the APMC Market in Vashi, where workers were seen wading through knee-deep water while carrying heavy sacks and goods in an attempt to protect perishable stock from rainwater damage.
