Two Construction Workers Killed in Crane Collapse on Airoli's Patni Road

Two construction workers died after the hook of a crane snapped and the equipment collapsed on them at an under-construction site on Patni Road in Airoli on Monday afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as 41-year-old Bobby Rai and 33-year-old Rahul Mishra. The incident took place around noon at a project site where Raheja Builders, through Giga Flex company, was carrying out building work.
According to the police, the crane was being operated to move construction material across the site when its hook suddenly gave way. The crane subsequently collapsed onto the two workers who were stationed directly below. Both sustained severe injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they later succumbed to their wounds.
Following the collapse, personnel from the Rabale police station along with the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation fire brigade team from Airoli arrived at the site. The police conducted a panchnama and began recording statements from eyewitnesses and individuals associated with the ongoing construction.
Investigating officials are reviewing closed-circuit television footage from the premises and examining the technical condition of the crane, its maintenance history, safety arrangements, and related documentation to determine how the failure occurred.
“An investigation is underway to ascertain who was responsible for the accident and whether there were any lapses in the maintenance of the crane or the safety arrangements. Legal action will be taken against those found responsible after the investigation,” said Senior Police Inspector Balkrishna Sawant.
The Rabale police have registered an accidental death case in connection with the incident, and further investigation is currently underway.
