Two Dead Including Toddler in Vile Parle Building Fire

Two people, including a 2.5-year-old child, died and six others were injured after a fire broke out in two flats on the 11th floor of a residential building in Vile Parle (West) late Tuesday night. The blaze erupted around 10.02pm at the Shanta Bhavan Building, located on Baptista Road near St Xavier School on Church Road.

The fire spread across electrical wiring and installations, an air conditioning unit, household articles, a sofa, a bed, a false ceiling, kitchen utensils, and other items. The flames covered an area of approximately 4,000 square feet across Flat numbers 1101 and 1102 on the 11th floor of the stilt-plus-11-storey residential structure.

Emergency response teams, including fire brigade personnel, police officers, officials from the electricity department, a 108 ambulance crew, and local ward staff, were mobilised to the spot to carry out firefighting and rescue operations. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control at around 12.25am, and the fire was completely extinguished by 1am.

A total of eight injured individuals were reported in connection with the incident. Two of the victims were taken to Cooper Hospital, while six others were rushed to Nanavati Hospital for medical attention.

Upon arrival at Nanavati Hospital, two of the six patients brought in were declared brought dead by attending doctors, including the 2.5-year-old child. At Cooper Hospital, doctors treated and discharged 30-year-old fireman Manoj Sonavane and 29-year-old Shivam Dwivedi. Hospital authorities noted that Sonavane sustained his injuries while actively responding to the blaze.
