Two Detained For Assaulting Passenger On Churchgate-Bandra Local Train

The Government Railway Police (GRP) Mumbai Central detained two transgender individuals for allegedly assaulting a male passenger aboard a local train between Mahim and Bandra stations. The incident occurred on July 18 between 11:00 PM and 11:10 PM on a Churchgate–Bandra slow local train, following a dispute over a demand for money.

The detained individuals were identified as 21-year-old Krishna Chandra Bhaskar Das, alias Shubhangi Guru Sandhya, a resident of Nalasopara East, and 16-year-old Rupam Rajkumar Khatik, alias Rupali Guru Sana Sheikh, a resident of Mahim West. The police have not disclosed the identity of the male victim.

According to the police, the altercation began when the accused demanded money from the passenger. After the passenger refused, a verbal argument broke out and quickly escalated into a physical assault. A co-passenger recorded the incident on a mobile phone, and the video of the assault subsequently went viral on social media. The footage showed the two individuals hitting the passenger with their hands while other passengers did not intervene.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Dadar Central traced the two individuals seen in the viral video. They handed them over to the RPF at Dadar West, who then produced them before the GRP. RPF constable Sanjay Singh filed the formal complaint on behalf of the government.

Following the complaint, the GRP registered an First Information Report (FIR) under Section 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for voluntarily causing simple hurt. Officials noted that both of the detained individuals apologized after being taken into custody.

The police are conducting further investigations to record the victim's statement and obtain accounts from eyewitnesses. Investigators are also analyzing the viral video footage to confirm the exact sequence of events and decide if further legal action is required.
