Two EduVio directors arrested in Mumbai for MBBS admission fraud

Two EduVio directors arrested in Mumbai for MBBS admission fraud

The Mumbai police's Crime Branch Unit 10 on Wednesday arrested two directors of a Hyderabad-based education firm for their alleged involvement in an MBBS admission racket. The arrested directors, Aditya Kumar Arogonda and Arvind Rao of EduVio Learning Solution Pvt Ltd, allegedly duped parents, including a resident of Kandivli, by promising guaranteed medical college seats through the NEET counselling process.

A local court remanded both of the accused in police custody. According to the police, the directors had previously been arrested by the Hyderabad and Pune police in connection with similar cheating cases.

The investigation revealed that the accused lured medical aspirants through social media advertisements that promised confirmed MBBS seats across India. Investigators suspect that the accused collected between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 40 lakh from various families, often issuing forged allotment letters.

The fraud came to light after Irshad Jambharkar, a garage owner from Ratnagiri, approached Mumbai police commissioner Deven Bharti during a public grievance hearing. Jambharkar had come across an EduVio advertisement on Instagram in September 2025 while searching for MBBS admission options for his daughter.

Jambharkar was allegedly told by company representatives that a seat would be secured under the management quota and that his payment would be refunded if the admission did not go through. He paid Rs 13.94 lakh and was later given an allotment letter for a medical college in Jalna, but the admission never materialised and no refund was provided.

Another victim, Sayyed Khan from Kandivli, filed a complaint alleging that EduVio representatives contacted him after he responded to a NEET counselling advertisement on Instagram. Khan paid an initial amount of Rs 50,000 and subsequently transferred additional funds totalling Rs 18.58 lakh after receiving assurances of a medical seat for his daughter. As with Jambharkar, the admission was not secured and his money was not returned.

Following these complaints, the Mumbai police registered a case for cheating, breach of trust, and common intention. In addition to the two arrested directors, the police have named Venkatarao Kusume, Krishna Patil, Ronit Pawade, Pradeep Nair, and Vidya Patil in the case.

A Crime Branch officer stated that the duo and other wanted accomplices are suspected of cheating multiple aspiring MBBS candidates, noting that six to seven parents have approached the police so far.
