Two Injured After Massive Tree Collapses on Moving Two-Wheeler in Kalwa

A massive tree collapsed onto a moving two-wheeler near the Kalwa Kharegaon Naka police chowky in Kalwa, Thane, on Saturday, seriously injuring two persons. The incident occurred as heavy monsoon downpours and gusty winds continue to batter the region, leading to a rise in tree-fall cases.

The impact of the collapse left the two riders with serious injuries. Following the incident, the uprooted tree lay entirely across the road, bringing vehicular movement in the Kalwa area to a complete halt. Local commuters faced severe difficulties trying to navigate the road due to the massive blockade. Visuals of the scene captured the scale of the collapse, showing the large tree blocking the entire stretch of the road near the police chowky.

This incident is part of a wider series of tree collapses triggered by the intense monsoon weather. On the same day, several other tree-fall incidents were reported in nearby areas. In Dadar, another large tree crashed inside the Meenatai Thackeray Flower Market, damaging flower stalls and goods, though no injuries were reported there. Similar incidents occurred in South Mumbai near the Cricket Club of India, where a parked car was severely damaged, and on Pedder Road.

The ongoing heavy rainfall has disrupted daily life across the region, causing widespread waterlogging and flooding in addition to the tree collapses. With a Red Alert active for the area, local authorities have cautioned citizens to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. Schools and colleges have also been declared closed to prioritise student safety amid the hazardous weather conditions.
