Two injured in local train seat dispute between Dombivli and Thakurli

A violent dispute over a seat on an Ambernath-bound local train traveling between Dombivli and Thakurli stations shortly after midnight on Thursday left two passengers injured, with one suffering head injuries from a metal bracelet.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:10 a.m. inside the luggage coach of a Parel-Ambarnath local train. According to railway authorities, the altercation between the passengers resulted in head injuries for both individuals involved.

One of the injured passengers reported that the train was crowded when he initially boarded, but became relatively empty by the time it reached Diva station in Thane. He alleged that a group of men boarded the train at Dombivli and approached him while he was resting, questioning him for sleeping on the seat.

The passenger claimed that as he prepared to stand up, the men suddenly removed a metal bracelet, known as a kada, and assaulted him. He alleged that he was struck multiple times on the head, causing heavy bleeding. He further claimed the attackers attempted to push him out of the moving train when he grabbed the collar of one of the men. According to his account, four to five men entered the coach and rescued him when the train stopped at Thakurli station.

However, the Government Railway Police (GRP) presented a different account of the altercation. Railway officials stated that the fight broke out between two individuals while the train was in motion.

Personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the GRP boarded the train once it arrived at Kalyan station. Both injured passengers were provided immediate first aid and shifted to Rukhmabai Hospital. The passenger with more serious injuries was later referred to Sion Hospital for further treatment.

A preliminary inquiry by the GRP found no evidence of any sharp weapons, contradicting initial reports of a machete attack. Police confirmed that the head injury was caused when a metal bracelet worn by one of the men struck the other during the physical fight.

The GRP is currently taking legal action and preparing a detailed report as the investigation continues.
